Street

This is Kata at higher grounds. Very rustic, very safe. There are a couple of internet cafes there as well as restaurants.

Photobucket
This is the tsunami evacuation route which can be found readily at all corners. It is always good to know these routes.

Food

We ate at one of the restaurants we found at higher ground.

The decorations are great!

Photobucket
The soft drinks here are much sweeter and gassier as compared to what we have back in Singapore.

This is our pineapple fried rice. Really tummy!

Photobucket
You will never go wrong with Padthai (fried rice noodles).

Photobucket
Tom yam goong (Spicy and sour soup with prawns) if you are not sweating enough.

If you are keen in street food like we are, there are banana pancake stalls as well as fresh oyster stalls.

Cheese Pancake

Banana pancake. These pancakes is something like Roti Prata (found in Singapore) except it is much crispier) Mama thinks that the banana pancake in Chiang Mai is much nicer though.

Photobucket
You may find this oyster stall along Kata main street.

This is a recommendation that I would make - Padthai. This is from a moving road side stall ( a motorcycle with a stove). It cost us 20baht and it is simply delicious. The vendor uncle is really friendly and Papa had a great chat with him while he was cooking. It turns out that he stayed in Singapore for 6 years before returning to Phuket. He closes shop once he runs out of ingredients and he is always on the move, so watch out for him. We were really lucky to catch him along the main road right outside Metadee as his last customer of the day.

In the morning, you will be able to find moving fruit stalls selling a variety of fruits.

Photobucket
We brought a coconut to cool ourselves from the heat. It is a nice and big one, but there isn't much flesh though.

I recommended barbeque chicken wings in my Kata Beach post, and here I am going to show you some of the food you can find at these moving bbq stalls.

This is easily my favourite - barbeque chicken wings! It is really fragrant and juicy. These are 3 photos taken on 3 different occasions as we are really addicted to it!

Photobucket
These food are typically pre-cooked and they will heat it up on the grill for you.

Other street food includes fish balls and sausages.

Convenience stalls are readily available along Kata main street and they are generally affordable. You can also get 5 liters bottled water from these stores if your hotel does not provide sufficient bottled water.

If you are a instant noodle junkie like us, do be mindful that almost (or I would say all) instant noodles that we have tried in Thailand are spicy, even if sounds innocent (like beef noodles). Just prepare loads of water and you will be fine.

There are a number of restaurants that lined Kata main street. Although all looked pretty much the same, I have a recommendation to make!

Photobucket
The restaurant is called No View But Taste. It simply says everything!

Photobucket
There is a chef at the entrance of the restaurant preparing grilled food before delivering to the kitchen for the sides.

Photobucket
At the entrance, you will also be able to find a metal tub full of all variety of seafood that you can order.

We had orange juice. Houseflies are common in the humid and warm environment, so we are pretty used t0 it.

We had grilled lobster (approx 1kg) and tiger prawns in pineapple. The pineapple cheesey mix with the sucullent prawn meat is really delicious!

The boss of this restaurant is really nice as he will walk around chatting with the customers, making sure that there are no problems with the food.

Photobucket
We ended off the dinner with 2 ice creams.

Photobucket
Just look at the size of the tiger prawns!

Photobucket
Here is our damage. It is pretty affordable. We were also given a 15% discount for visiting the restaurant during a particular time slot when they are having promotion.

Shop

There are not much shopping that you can do in Kata as compared to Patong, but we found this soap carving stall at the far end of Kata main street. It is manned by a quiet Thai guy who spends more of this time quietly carving beautiful soap flowers than to persuade you to buy anything from him.

Photobucket

He is really good at carving soap elephants too! They are the cutest!

Photobucket

Photobucket
Mama was totally wowed over by these soap carvings and had a hard time deciding between the flowers and elephants. Eventually, she bought the soap flowers for her mum as the petals are really intricately carved.

Massage

There are many shops offering massage services. Papa and mama did not try any body massage there during our trip there. But they decided to try out foot massage at one of the shops near our resort.

Photobucket
They also offer fish spa there. Papa and mama decided against it as they were really worried of the cleanliness aspect of this type of spa.

Photobucket
Me! At the foot massage shop.

Hee Hee. I am laughing while the 2 are getting their foot mashed up. Just kidding. There are some parts of the massage which are pretty painful, but you can always tell them to lighten the strength applied.

And that is all for now!
